What is the PANTONE Color of the Year?

A symbolic color selection (chosen after careful consideration and trend analysis); a color snapshot of what is seen taking place in the world and its cultures that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.

PANTONE selected Greenery to represent 2017. They described it by saying, “the more connected people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.”

A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings. It’s a fresh and zesty shade that restores as well as it renews. With a strong connection to nature, Greenery reminds consumers to focus on their health and wellness.

What does this mean for designers?

Because of green’s natural qualities, it maintains a perception of being inherently good for you and organic. People respond subconsciously to the hue, making the eye-catching Greenery an ideal shade for many applications of graphic design.

This is especially true for food/beverage packaging, where Greenery instantly communicates freshness. Environmental design, technology and innovation can benefit from its use also because of its boldness and modernity. Many apps, iconography and startups express this energy by using the bright shade of green in their logos.
