5 Remote work tools we’re using to stay productive at home

These times are… weird. Over the past few weeks, governmental stay-at-home orders have forced so many people to work from home for an indeterminate period of time. While working from home sounds like a dream come true, there are definitely some drawbacks, even for a digital company like ours. Like anything else, it’s going to take a little time to settle into a new routine.

Just know, we’re all in this together. To ease your transition into working (and staying) at home, we’ve put together some of our favorite remote work tools and tips we’re using to adjust to this new change.

Remote Work Tools We Love

Google Keep: Stay Structured

Google Keep is one of our favorite note-taking tools. It allows us to capture notes, reminders and to-do lists throughout the day with pictures, drawings and text. You can even share your notes and lists with others! Our favorite feature of Google Keep is that you can access them anytime, anywhere, and on any device.

When you’re working from home, it’s important that you maintain your regular schedule to keep a sense of normalcy and structure. Follow through on your normal day-to-day activities. Shower, get dressed, eat breakfast and check your email, all as you normally would. Then, set your expectations for the day and most importantly, your to-do list. Something as simple as Google Keep can help you to stay on track and hold yourself accountable for your daily goals. We use Google Keep for all of our list needs.

Slack: Stay Connected

Slack is one of the best communication tools for remote teams. The software helps teams stay connected, productive and accountable throughout the workday with direct messaging. Slack allows you to organize conversations with channels, streamline your work with other integrated tools, share files, talk with your colleagues over voice or video calls and so much more.

The Parkway Digital team relies on Slack for a number of reasons. This work from home software is how we check in with each other daily, both through messages and conference video calls, chat about our to-do lists, share files, and screen-share for teaching or collaborative moments.

Monday: Stay on Task

Monday is a remote collaboration tool that we’re extra thankful for at Parkway Digital, whether we’re in the office or at our home desks. The visual management software keeps track of our workflow with project assignments, tasks, updates and completed tasks. The app syncs all of the information to a single hub, where our whole team can access it. Monday is how our team keeps things moving along in a timely manner!

Google Drive: Stay Organized

If you have employees working from home or coworkers logging in on different computers, Google Drive is a synchronized cloud-based platform that allows your employees to store, share and access files from any device. Drive helps our team collaborate on projects with tools like Docs, Sheets and Slides, where we can all share and make edits to documents.

Google Drive also makes organization quick and efficient with folders that your whole team can access. Organization is key for a productive team. If you have downtime, organizing your digital environment is a great way to stay busy!

Instagram: Stay Fit

We’ve run into many gyms and fitness instructors on Instagram who are sharing their workouts daily. Whether you prefer running, yoga, meditation or HIIT workouts, there are plenty of local gyms offering workout videos and plans for you to stay active at your home. Check the social media accounts of your local fitness establishments to find out when they are offering their virtual classes.
